Presence Is a Present

When I was younger, I thought providing for my family was primarily about making sure everyone had what they needed. But life has taught me that children, spouses, and even grandchildren are often looking for something much simpler. They’re looking for us.

Not the leftovers of us. Not the distracted version of us. Us.

People may not remember everything we said. But they almost always remember how we made them feel.

Jesus had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen. Whether speaking with children, fishermen, or grieving friends, He was fully present.

Seneca wrote: “Life is long enough if you know how to use it.” And perhaps one of the best ways to use it is to spend it with those we love.
