Every day, all year
Proverbs was built for this. Read the chapter that matches today's date and you finish the book of wisdom twelve times a year, without a reading plan and without falling behind.
Start here
Every day carries the full chapter in two translations you can switch between, one verse pulled out to sit at the front, two questions, and one rep to actually do before the day is over.
Each day is also tagged to one of the five pillars, so a month of reading walks you through the whole structure rather than leaving it abstract.
Proverbs 7
Bind them on your fingers. Write them on the tablet of your heart.
Proverbs 7:3 · WEBBE
A warning chapter, and the defence it prescribes is not willpower. It is having the right words already written where you can reach them.
Today’s rep
Write one verse somewhere you will see it tomorrow without looking for it.
The whole month
The chapter opens the whole book by naming the starting point. Not intelligence, not experience. Reverence.
Wisdom is described as silver and hidden treasure. Both take work to reach. Neither shows up on the surface.
The most quoted verses in the book are also the hardest. Your own understanding is not evil. It is just not enough to carry a life.
Everything else flows from the heart, so the chapter treats it as infrastructure. You protect what everything else depends on.
A blunt chapter about faithfulness that ends somewhere unexpected: rejoice in the marriage you already have.
The ant has no supervisor and still does the work. That is the whole lesson, and it is aimed squarely at anyone who only performs when watched.
A warning chapter, and the defence it prescribes is not willpower. It is having the right words already written where you can reach them.
Wisdom is not hiding in this chapter. She is standing at the gate shouting. The problem was never availability.
The test of wisdom here is not what you know. It is what happens to your face when you are corrected.
The first chapter of the short proverbs, and it wastes no time drawing a line between the slack hand and the diligent one.
Safety is described as a function of counsel, plural. Not one advisor, and definitely not none.
A hard verse to read about yourself. Loving instruction and hating reproof cannot both be true at once.
It is not about admiring the wise or following them online. It is about proximity. You become the average of who you walk with.
The same hands build or tear down. The chapter puts the outcome on daily behaviour rather than on circumstance.
The first verse is the whole chapter in miniature, and it is decided in about two seconds of self control.
Commit the works, and the thoughts get established. The order in that sentence is the opposite of how most people plan.
At all times covers the seasons where a friendship costs something and returns nothing.
Many companions is not the same as one who sticks. The chapter also warns about answering before you have listened.
Planning is not the problem. Holding the plan so tightly that you cannot hear a correction is.
The blessing in this verse lands on the generation after. Integrity is described as inheritance.
The wise keep a reserve. The foolish consume it as it arrives. It is a description of margin, written three thousand years early.
The chapter also puts a good name above great riches and calls the borrower a servant to the lender. Three sharp ideas in one place.
Riches sprout wings and fly away. The chapter is not against work. It is against exhausting yourself for a thing that will not stay.
The righteous man is not the one who does not fall. He is the one who gets up. The chapter also says that fainting in adversity reveals your real strength.
A person with no self control is described as defenceless. Not weak in one area. Open on every side.
The image is deliberately disgusting because the pattern is. Repeating the same mistake is not bad luck, it is a loop.
Sharpening makes noise and takes material off. The wounds of a friend are faithful, which means they are meant to be trusted rather than avoided.
Covering it up does not work. Confession and forsaking is the path, and the chapter also links steady work to real provision.
Without revelation the people cast off restraint. Direction is not decoration. It is the thing keeping a life inside its banks.
Agur asks for enough. Too much and he forgets God, too little and he dishonours him. It is one of the most honest prayers in scripture.
The book closes on a portrait of character over appearance, and on a charge to speak up for people who have no voice.
How to run it
Whichever one matches the date. On the 31st of a short month, take the 31st anyway.
Two of them. The answer is less useful than the fact that you stopped to be asked.
The notes box saves to your device. A line a day beats a page you never come back to.
One action, before the day ends. This is the part that turns reading into a changed life.
