August  •  Day 12

Food Is Fuel, Not Comfort

Day 224 of 365  •  FITNESS

Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat, for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty.

Proverbs 23:20–21 (ESV)

Proverb Truth

I’ve discovered that food is one of God’s gifts. Meals bring people together. Food is meant to be enjoyed. But many of us ask food to do things it was never designed to do. We ask it to comfort us. To relieve stress. To fill emotional emptiness.

Only God can satisfy what the soul is truly hungry for. These days, I simply want to fuel my body in a way that allows me to continue loving people well.

Jesus in Action

Jesus enjoyed meals. He shared tables with friends. But He never allowed physical appetites to become masters.

Forged Wisdom

Musonius Rufus wrote: “We should eat to live, not live to eat.”

The No Limits Challenge

Pay attention to why you’re eating today. Are you fueling your body—or trying to soothe your soul?

Prayer

Father, thank You for the gift of food. Help me enjoy Your blessings with gratitude and moderation. Amen.
