The Gift of Accountability

I’ve learned over the years that accountability is one of those things most men say they want but very few naturally enjoy. Because none of us particularly likes correction.

But looking back, some of the greatest growth in my life came through people who loved me enough to ask hard questions. Questions I didn’t always want to answer.

Accountability isn’t about control. It’s about protection. Because every man has blind spots. And every man needs people who care more about his character than his comfort.

Jesus lovingly corrected His disciples because He cared about who they were becoming. His correction was never condemnation. It was love.

Epictetus wrote: “If you wish to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid.” Growth requires humility. And humility keeps the heart teachable.
