Beware of Greed

I’ve lived long enough to know that greed rarely announces itself. What begins as a healthy desire to provide slowly turns into an obsession to achieve. Ambition, which once felt noble, gradually becomes anxiety.

I’ve seen that happen to good men. Men who loved their families and sincerely wanted to build something meaningful. But somewhere along the way, success stopped being a servant and quietly became a master. And masters always demand more.

Solomon understood something many of us spend years learning. Anything we place above God eventually asks from us more than it can ever give back.

One of the things that has always amazed me about Jesus is how completely free He was. Wealth never impressed Him, and poverty never frightened Him. His security rested entirely in His Father.

Centuries later, Seneca observed that no amount of wealth can satisfy a heart that never learns contentment.
