Contentment Is Riches

Years ago, I sat with a man who had spent decades building a successful business. Somewhere during our conversation, he quietly said something I’ll never forget. “Billy, I spent so much time trying to get more that I forgot how to enjoy what I already had.”

The older I get, the more convinced I become that contentment isn’t laziness. It’s gratitude. It’s learning to appreciate a quiet evening with family. It’s enjoying a conversation with a friend.

Perhaps the richest people aren’t those who possess the most. Perhaps they’re the ones who have learned to say, “Lord, thank You. What You’ve given me is enough.”

Jesus lived with a peace that circumstances could not touch. His joy didn’t rise and fall with possessions because His heart rested securely in His Father. That’s real wealth.

Seneca once wrote, “It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor.” Those words have only become truer with age.
