Wealth Isn’t Worth

Over the years, I’ve stood beside enough hospital beds and attended enough funerals to know something with certainty. When life becomes fragile, people rarely talk about stock portfolios. They talk about faces. They talk about memories. They talk about relationships.

Life has a way of stripping away illusions. And eventually, all of us discover that the things we spent so much time chasing often aren’t the things that matter most.

Perhaps that’s why the older I get, the less impressed I become with wealth and the more impressed I become with character.

Jesus repeatedly reminded people that life does not consist in the abundance of possessions. He understood that money is a wonderful servant but a terrible master.

Seneca once wrote: “It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor.” Those words become truer with age.
