Patience at Home

I’ve discovered something humbling over the years. It’s often easier to be patient with strangers than with the people we love most. We can show kindness to coworkers and grace to acquaintances, then come home and offer our families whatever energy we have left.

Maybe it’s because home is where we’re most comfortable. Or maybe it’s because the people closest to us see the parts of us nobody else sees. Either way, I’ve learned that patience is one of the greatest gifts we can give the people who live under our roof.

Because marriages require patience. Parenting requires patience. Growing together requires patience. And thank God He’s patient with us.

The disciples misunderstood Jesus countless times. They argued. They doubted. They failed. And yet Jesus remained patient with them. His love didn’t disappear every time they stumbled. Neither should ours.
