What Will Matter One Hundred Years From Now?

I’ve begun asking myself a different question these days. Not, “What matters this week?” Or even, “What matters this year?” But, “What will matter one hundred years from now?”

Because time has a remarkable way of exposing what is temporary. Titles fade. Possessions change hands. Businesses evolve. Achievements are eventually forgotten.

But faith? Love? Kindness? Character? Those things endure.

I’ve discovered that many things I once stressed over have long since disappeared. And many things I almost overlooked have become treasures. Because eternity has a way of making ordinary acts of faithfulness seem extraordinary.

Jesus continually pointed people toward eternal things. Because eternity changes perspective. And perspective changes priorities.

Marcus Aurelius wrote: “Soon you will have forgotten everything, and soon everybody will have forgotten you.” Sobering words. And perhaps that’s exactly why eternal things matter so much.
