Joy Lives in Ordinary Things

When I was younger, I imagined joy arriving through extraordinary moments. Major victories. Dream vacations. Big accomplishments. And while those moments are wonderful, life has taught me that joy usually arrives much more quietly.

It hides inside ordinary things. Morning coffee. Conversations with friends. Watching a ballgame with family. Walking with your wife. A phone call from your children. Sunsets. Laughter.

Those moments don’t seem spectacular while they’re happening. But years later, they’re often the memories we treasure most.

I’ve discovered that joy grows wherever gratitude lives. And gratitude teaches us to appreciate simple things. Because simple things are often sacred things.

Jesus embraced ordinary life. Meals. Conversations. Friendships. Celebrations. And through those ordinary moments, He revealed extraordinary love.

Marcus Aurelius wrote: “Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.” Those words remind me to slow down and notice. Because beauty is everywhere for those who pay attention.
