Wealth That Lasts

As we close another month together, I find myself smiling at how much my understanding of wealth has changed.

When I was younger, I thought wealth was measured in numbers. Accounts. Assets. Achievements. And while wise stewardship certainly matters, life has taught me that true wealth is measured very differently.

True wealth is peace. True wealth is contentment. True wealth is a loving family. Faithful friends. Good health. Meaningful work. And above all, a close walk with God.

Because I’ve learned that a man can have millions and still be poor. And a man can possess very little and still be incredibly rich.

Looking back, some of the richest moments of my life have involved things money could never buy. Sitting on the porch with my wife. Laughing with friends. Watching children grow. Praying with family. Celebrating God’s faithfulness.

As I grow older, I find myself praying differently. Not, “Lord, make me wealthy.” But, “Lord, make me faithful.” Because faithful men sleep well. Faithful men live generously. Faithful men bless others. And faithful men understand that everything they possess ultimately belongs to God.

Jesus owned little, yet possessed everything. He invested in people. He walked with His Father. He loved deeply. And through His life, He showed us what true riches look like.

Epictetus wrote: “Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants.” And perhaps Scripture would add: “And great gain is found in godliness with contentment.”
