The Joy of Open Hands

I’ve discovered something beautiful over the years. Closed fists produce anxiety. Open hands produce joy.

Because when we cling too tightly to money, possessions, or even dreams, fear often follows. Fear of losing. Fear of not having enough. Fear of what tomorrow might bring.

But generosity changes us. It loosens the grip of fear. And I’ve found that generous people are often joyful people. Not because life is easier. But because they trust God more than they trust their bank accounts.

Perhaps that’s one reason giving brings such satisfaction. It’s an act of worship. An act of trust. A declaration that God is the Provider. And over the years, He has proven Himself faithful time and time again.

Jesus held nothing back. He gave His time. His energy. His compassion. And ultimately, His life. Because love always opens its hands.

Epictetus wrote: “Never depend upon the admiration of others.” Perhaps we shouldn’t depend upon possessions either.
