Give Before You Feel Rich

I’ve discovered that generosity has a strange way of exposing our hearts. Because most of us tell ourselves that we’ll become generous later. When we make more. When things settle down. When we finally have enough.

But over the years, I’ve learned that generosity isn’t something wealth creates. It’s something character creates.

I’ve known people with modest means who gave generously. And I’ve known wealthy people who struggled to let go of anything. Because generosity has very little to do with amounts. And everything to do with trust.

Perhaps that’s why God invites us to give. Not because He needs our resources. But because giving loosens our grip. It reminds us that we are stewards. Not owners.

And I’ve found that some of the greatest joy in life comes from blessing others. Not because giving makes us poorer. But because generosity enlarges the heart.

Jesus gave freely. Completely. Sacrificially. And through His generosity, we received life itself.

Epictetus wrote: “Know first who you are, and then adorn yourself accordingly.” And perhaps generous people reveal who they really are.
