Beware of Lifestyle Creep

I’ve noticed something interesting over the years. As income increases, expectations often increase right along with it. We get a raise. So we spend a little more. The business grows. So our lifestyle expands.

And before long, what once felt like abundance starts feeling normal. Then suddenly, we need even more to feel comfortable.

I’ve learned that contentment must grow faster than income. Otherwise, no amount will ever feel like enough.

Some of the freest people I know aren’t necessarily the people who make the most. They’re the people who need the least. Because margin creates peace. And peace is far more valuable than appearances.

Jesus lived simply. Not because He lacked power. But because simplicity protected His priorities. And perhaps simplicity still does.

Epictetus wrote: “If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid regarding external things.” Those words remind me that chasing appearances is an exhausting game.
