Work Hard, Sleep Well

I remember being fascinated by overnight success stories when I was younger. Big deals. Quick wins. Fast money. There was something exciting about the idea of arriving quickly.

But life has taught me that most worthwhile things grow slowly. Strong marriages. Deep friendships. Healthy bodies. Growing faith. Financial stability. They all require patience.

And if I’m honest, I’ve come to appreciate slow growth far more than fast success. Because slow growth has roots. It creates character. It teaches gratitude.

And perhaps that’s why some of the happiest men I know are not chasing shortcuts. They’re simply showing up every day. Working hard. Keeping their word. Living within their means. And trusting God with the results.

Because there is something deeply satisfying about laying your head on the pillow at night knowing you earned an honest living and honored God in the process. Perhaps peace has always been one of life’s greatest rewards.

Jesus spent most of His earthly life working quietly. No spotlight. No applause. Just faithful obedience. And perhaps ordinary faithfulness has always been beautiful in heaven’s eyes.

Epictetus wrote: “No great thing is created suddenly.” Those words have become increasingly precious to me. Because God often works slowly. And slowly is not the same as unsuccessfully.
