Discipline Over Feelings
Day 41 of 365 • FORMATION

Proverb Truth
There are days when I feel motivated. And there are days when I don’t. If I’m honest, there are times when comfort sounds much more appealing than discipline.
But feelings are unreliable leaders. Some mornings we wake up inspired. Other mornings we wake up tired. And if we build our lives around how we feel, we’ll spend most of our time drifting from one emotion to the next.
Solomon compares a lack of self-control to a city without walls. In his day, walls provided protection. Without them, people were vulnerable. The same is true today. Discipline protects us. It guards our marriages. Our finances. Our health. Our faith. Not because discipline is exciting, but because discipline provides stability.
Jesus in Action
Jesus remained faithful even when obedience led Him into suffering. He didn’t follow His feelings. He followed His Father.
Forged Wisdom
Seneca observed: “He who is brave is free.”
And sometimes bravery looks like saying no to ourselves.
The No Limits Challenge
Do one thing today because it’s right, not because you feel like it.
Prayer
Father, teach me to live by conviction instead of emotion. Strengthen my discipline and help me become a man who is steady and faithful. Amen.
