Treasure the Story

There is something about the day after Christmas that has always felt different to me. The rush has passed. The wrapping paper is gone. The guests have headed home. And suddenly, everything becomes quiet again.

And as I’ve grown older, I’ve come to realize that life itself is much like Christmas. When we’re young, we are fascinated by the presents. But with age, our eyes begin to focus on something deeper. The people. The memories. The stories.

Because the older I get, the more I realize that life is not made beautiful by possessions. It is made beautiful by relationships.

And perhaps that is why the Gospel story never grows old. Because beneath the manger, the shepherds, and the wise men lies a much bigger story. The story of a Father pursuing His children. The story of grace meeting brokenness. The story of hope entering the world. The story of love.

John wrote: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory...” Christmas was never merely about a baby in a manger. It was about God coming near. Because love always moves toward the beloved.

Seneca wrote: “Begin at once to live, and count each separate day as a separate life.” And perhaps truly living begins when we realize that we are part of a much bigger story.
