There Are No Small Blessings

I’ve noticed something about children. They become excited about little things. Ice cream. Snow days. Birthday cakes. Sunsets.

And perhaps somewhere along the journey, adults lose some of that wonder. We become so focused on major blessings that we overlook the daily ones.

But age has brought something unexpected back into my life. Wonder. Good coffee. Warm conversations. A healthy morning. Old friends. Answered prayers. Unexpected laughter. Another sunrise.

And perhaps these things aren’t small blessings at all. Perhaps they’re miracles we’ve simply grown accustomed to.

Jesus thanked the Father for ordinary loaves and fish. Because gratitude transforms simple things into sacred things.

Marcus Aurelius wrote: “Receive without pride, let go without attachment.” And perhaps gratitude lives between those two truths.
