Be Rich Toward God

I’ve spent enough years around successful people to know that earthly wealth has limitations. No amount of money can purchase peace. No investment account can guarantee tomorrow. No possession can satisfy the deepest longings of the soul.

And perhaps that’s because we were made for something bigger. We were made for God. Which means the richest people on earth are not necessarily the people with the most money. They’re the people with the deepest relationship with Him.

I’ve met believers with very little materially who seemed incredibly wealthy. Rich in faith. Rich in joy. Rich in gratitude. Rich in peace. And I’ve met people with extraordinary resources who seemed spiritually bankrupt.

The soul was never designed to feed on possessions. It feeds on God.

Jesus continually directed people’s hearts toward the Father. Because intimacy with God is the greatest treasure a man can possess.

Epictetus wrote: “Seek not the good in external things; seek it in yourselves.” And Scripture would take us even further. Seek it in God.
