A Good Name Is Better

When I was younger, I probably underestimated the value of reputation. Not image. Not popularity. Character. Because image can be manufactured. But character is forged. And character takes time.

Over the years, I’ve discovered that trust is one of life’s most valuable currencies. People want to know they can depend on you. That your word means something. That your handshake matters. That your integrity remains intact even when nobody is watching.

And honestly, some of the men I’ve admired most were not wealthy by worldly standards. But they possessed something much greater. They had good names. People trusted them. Their families respected them. Their friends depended on them.

And perhaps that is a form of wealth money can never buy. Because fortunes can disappear. But character leaves a legacy.

Jesus possessed no earthly riches, yet no name has ever been more honored. Because greatness has never been measured by possessions. It has always been measured by character.

Epictetus wrote: “First say to yourself what you would be, and then do what you have to do.” Character first. Everything else follows.
