Money Makes a Wonderful Servant

When I was younger, I thought money was the destination. If I could just make enough. Save enough. Build enough. Then peace would finally arrive. But life has taught me that money is a terrible destination. It’s a tool. And tools are meant to serve. Not rule.

I’ve watched people spend their entire lives chasing wealth only to discover that what they gained financially cost them relationally. I’ve seen men sacrifice marriages. Miss their children’s childhood. Ignore their health. And all for a finish line that kept moving.

Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate something much simpler. Enough. Not endless accumulation. Enough. Enough to provide. Enough to bless. Enough to enjoy. Enough to give.

Because contentment is one of God’s greatest gifts. And perhaps wealth becomes dangerous when enough stops being enough.

Jesus owned very little. Yet He possessed perfect peace. Because His treasure was never found in possessions. It was found in His Father. And perhaps that’s where ours belongs too.

Epictetus wrote: “Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants.” Those words have become more beautiful with every passing year. Because freedom often grows where contentment lives.
