January  •  Day 8

Speak Less

Day 8 of 365  •  FAITH

When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.

Proverbs 10:19 (ESV)

Proverb Truth

Have you ever left a conversation and thought, “I probably should’ve stopped talking five minutes ago”?

Most of us have.

Some of my biggest regrets haven’t come from things I did. They’ve come from things I said.

It’s amazing how often we talk ourselves into trouble. Sometimes we speak because we’re nervous. Sometimes because we’re trying to impress people. Sometimes because silence feels uncomfortable.

But Solomon reminds us that wisdom isn’t measured by the number of words we use.

In fact, some of the wisest people I’ve ever met were also some of the quietest. They listened carefully. They thought before speaking. And when they did speak, their words carried weight because they weren’t constantly trying to fill every moment with noise.

Maybe one of the reasons God gave us two ears and one mouth is because listening matters twice as much.

Jesus in Action

Jesus was never in a hurry to defend Himself. Standing before Pilate, falsely accused and facing death, He demonstrated remarkable restraint.

Truth didn’t need to panic. Neither does ours.

Forged Wisdom

Marcus Aurelius wrote, “Be mostly silent, or speak merely what is necessary.”

There’s wisdom in knowing that not every thought deserves an audience.

The No Limits Challenge

Listen more than you speak today. Pay attention to how much you learn when you’re not trying to be heard.

Prayer

Father, teach me to listen well and speak wisely. Help my words reflect Your grace and Your truth. Give me the discipline to know when silence is the better choice. Amen.
