Room to Breathe
Day 21 of 365 • FAITH
“Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.”
— Proverbs 21:23 (ESV)
Proverb Truth
Have you ever noticed how much trouble can be created in just a few seconds?
One careless comment. One angry text. One emotional response.
Sometimes I think the older we get, the more we realize that many of the battles we fight didn’t have to happen in the first place.
Years ago, I heard someone say, “Not every thought deserves a voice.” I’ve never forgotten that.
Just because something enters our minds doesn’t mean it needs to leave our mouths.
Solomon understood that wisdom isn’t only about knowing what to say. Sometimes wisdom means knowing when to say nothing at all.
I’ve discovered that life gets a little quieter and relationships become a little healthier when we learn to pause before reacting. That pause gives us room to breathe. And sometimes, that little bit of space is enough to keep us from creating problems we never needed to have.
Jesus in Action
There were moments when Jesus answered His critics with truth. There were other moments when He simply remained silent.
He never felt pressured to win every argument or defend Himself against every accusation. Because when your identity is secure, you don’t have to respond to everything.
Forged Wisdom
Epictetus taught: “Be silent for the most part, or speak only what is necessary.”
Wisdom doesn’t always speak. Sometimes wisdom listens.
The No Limits Challenge
Before responding today, take a breath and ask yourself: “Does this really need to be said?”
Prayer
Father, help me slow down. Teach me to speak with wisdom and to recognize when silence is the better choice. Guard my tongue and give me the patience to respond with grace. Amen.
