January  •  Day 2

Clean Words

Day 2 of 365  •  FAITH

Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you.

Proverbs 4:24 (ESV)

Proverb Truth

Years ago, I heard someone compare words to toothpaste. Once it’s out of the tube, getting it back in is nearly impossible.

Simple illustration. Powerful truth.

Most of us have said things we wish we could take back. A sharp response. A careless joke. Words spoken in frustration that stayed with someone much longer than we intended.

Solomon knew that words reveal what is happening inside us. Long before a man loses control of his actions, he often loses control of his tongue.

The truth is, people may forget what we said, but they rarely forget how our words made them feel.

Wise men understand that words can either heal or wound. They can build trust or slowly destroy it. That’s why learning to control our speech is really about learning to surrender our hearts.

Jesus in Action

Jesus spent His ministry surrounded by critics and doubters, yet His words consistently reflected truth and grace. Sometimes He spoke boldly. Sometimes He spoke gently. And sometimes He chose silence.

He understood that wisdom isn’t just knowing what to say.

It’s also knowing when not to say anything at all.

Forged Wisdom

Marcus Aurelius wrote, “If it is not true, do not say it. If it is not right, do not do it.” Simple words. Hard words. Necessary words.

The No Limits Challenge

Before speaking today, pause and ask yourself: “Will these words bring life or leave damage?”

Prayer

Father, help my words reflect Your heart. Teach me to speak with wisdom and use my words to encourage rather than wound. Amen.
