March  •  Day 4

The Power of Pause

Day 63 of 365  •  FOCUS

Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.

Proverbs 14:29 (ESV)

Proverb Truth

I’ve never regretted taking a breath.

I wish I could say the same about some of the words I’ve spoken too quickly.

Most of us know what it’s like to react before thinking. An email. A comment. A text message. A conversation that escalated because emotions arrived before wisdom did.

And if we’re honest, some of our biggest regrets weren’t the result of evil intentions. They were simply moments where we failed to pause.

The older I get, the more I appreciate the value of slowing down. Because somewhere between the emotion and the response lies a choice. And that choice often determines whether we create peace or unnecessary pain.

Solomon reminds us that understanding grows in patient men. Not perfect men. Patient men.

Jesus in Action

Even when crowds pressed against Him and critics questioned Him, Jesus rarely seemed hurried. He wasn’t controlled by urgency. He was led by His Father.

There’s a difference.

Forged Wisdom

Epictetus taught: “First learn the meaning of what you say, and then speak.”

Sometimes wisdom enters the room through silence.

The No Limits Challenge

The next time emotions rise, pause before responding.

Prayer

Father, help me slow down. Teach me to create space between my emotions and my responses so that wisdom, not impulse, guides my life. Amen.
