Love the Process

Years ago, I asked a coach what separated great athletes from talented athletes.

I expected him to talk about speed or natural ability. Instead, he smiled and said, “The great ones learn to love the process.” I’ve never forgotten that.

Because the truth is, most of us love results. We love promotions. We love answered prayers. We love victories. But very few people naturally love the work that produces those things.

We don’t always enjoy the early mornings, the difficult conversations, or the daily decisions that nobody notices. Yet that’s where growth happens. Solomon understood that discipline isn’t punishment. It’s preparation.

It’s God shaping us into men who can handle the blessings we’re praying for.

And maybe that’s why growth sometimes feels slow. God isn’t just trying to get us somewhere. He’s trying to build something within us.

Jesus spent thirty years preparing for three years of public ministry. Thirty years.

There were no crowds. No miracles. No fame. Just ordinary faithfulness. Because God understands something we often forget.

Preparation matters.

Seneca wrote: “Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body.”

Growth rarely feels comfortable. But discomfort is often where God does His best work.
