Gratitude Makes Memories Sweeter

One of the things I’ve noticed about getting older is that memories become increasingly precious. Certain songs. Certain places. Family traditions. Old photographs. They have a way of transporting us back to moments we thought were ordinary at the time.

And perhaps that’s one of God’s sweetest gifts. Because memories remind us how faithful He has been.

Looking back, I realize some of my favorite moments weren’t dramatic. They were simple. Vacation trips. Conversations around the dinner table. Laughing until tears rolled down our faces. Watching children grow. Sitting quietly beside my wife after a long day.

And perhaps gratitude is what transforms memories into blessings. Because grateful people don’t simply remember events. They remember God’s goodness hidden inside those events.

Jesus often invited His followers to remember. The Last Supper itself became a memorial of grace. Because remembering strengthens faith.

Marcus Aurelius wrote: “Think of the life you have lived until now as over and, as a dead man, see what’s left as a bonus and live it according to Nature.” What a remarkable perspective. Because every day after today is grace.
